Sir James Dyson’s Bladeless Fan

Watch this video. Sir James Dyson does it again. He has been famous for many inventions and his latest gizmo, the bladeless fan is simply amazing. What blows me away is the simplicity of its theory. And, I am sure Chinese wont take too long to bring out its affordable versions.

  1. The problem I have with this is cost. Even with cheap labor manufacturing it, it looks like it will always cost more than an equivalent fan with blades. Also, what about all the fun you get to have as a kid touching spinning blades, throwing things at it, sticking your tongue on it, scaring your mom, telling your little sister to stick her hand in, mangling your fingers . . . all sorts of fun gone forever!

    No thank you.

  2. Impellers usually have 6 or 8 vertical blades attached to a disc. So, technically it is not bladeless unless it’s a disc-turbine. Impellers have many applications depending on the flow-regimes and are commonly used in vacuum cleaners, washing machines, pumps, air-conditioners and mixers.

Knowledge of aerodynamics and fluids with a little back-ground of machining can help the members of this site to understand it better. If interested read Tesla turbine engines.

  3. ingenious, but cannot be called a milestone, other inventions we use everyday eg. a bimetallic thermostat, the differential in the car which can drive the two wheels at different speeds, thats alot of ingenuity if u see in every day stuff. This one invention cannot change the economy of britian as he says!!

  4. I am pretty much interested in this product, please guide me from where i can buy this product? is there any dyson dealer in Pakistan ???
