Microsoft has finally decided to call the next version of Windows ‘Windows 7′.
This is good since the name is small. So much for the collective laziness of the world.
Official: Introducing Windows 7
My idea: Are they trying to capitalize on the name of Intel’s upcoming CPU range ‘Core i7′. (I remember AMD did the same, capitalizing on Windows XP by naming their CPU range AMD Athlon XP in 2000/2001).
It took M$ all these years to figure out that military styled “code names” were pretty useless as the news would spread anyway, and everyone would know what is longhorn, and other fancy named projects.
But what is more important is what exactly is M$ planning to bring forth which would be significantly better in the Lucky 7? For an average PC user, even the 9 years old Windows 2000 is often quite sufficient.
